Cockroaches are nocturnal and avoid exposure, which means visible sightings typically indicate a population that has already outgrown its hiding spaces. These are the indicators that point to an active infestation in Karachi homes and commercial premises.
German cockroach droppings resemble small black pepper granules and accumulate inside kitchen cabinets, behind hinges, along shelf edges, and at the base of electrical appliances. A heavy concentration confirms active harborage in that zone.
A persistent musty or oily smell — particularly noticeable when you open lower cabinets — is produced by the aggregation pheromone cockroaches release. The stronger the odour, the larger the active population nearby.
Brown, capsule-shaped oothecae are found behind refrigerators, under microwaves, and inside the motor compartments of kitchen equipment. Each casing contains 30–40 eggs. A single undetected case can restart an infestation after treatment if not properly addressed.
Cockroaches seen during daylight hours signal overcrowding — the colony has grown large enough that lower-ranking individuals are being pushed out of harborage zones during the day. This is a reliable indicator of a mature, high-density infestation.
In areas with moisture, cockroaches leave irregular dark smear marks as they move along walls and behind baseboards. These marks are most common near drainage pipes, under the kitchen sink, and around wall gaps where plumbing passes through.
Cockroaches moult six to seven times before reaching adulthood, leaving behind pale-brown shed skins in sheltered spots. Finding multiple shed cases in the same area confirms that cockroaches are breeding — not just passing through — at that location.
The two species found in Karachi properties require different treatment approaches. Applying the wrong method — or a single generic spray — is why most DIY and low-cost treatments fail. Accurate identification comes first; treatment follows the species.
Blattella germanica
The most common infestation species in Karachi kitchens and commercial food preparation areas. German cockroaches are small (12–15mm), reproduce extremely rapidly, and live almost entirely within the kitchen — inside cabinets, behind appliances, and inside drainage cavities under sinks. A single female produces up to 400 offspring in her lifetime.
Because they rarely travel far from food sources, gel bait application in precise harborage zones — not general spraying — is the most effective method. Chemical sprays alone often cause the colony to scatter and regroup rather than eliminate it.
Periplaneta americana
The large reddish-brown cockroach seen in bathrooms, drains, and storage areas across Karachi. American cockroaches enter properties through the sewer system via drain lines, floor traps, and wall gaps near plumbing. They are primarily drawn to moisture and decaying organic matter rather than food preparation areas.
Treating the kitchen alone does not address this species. The sewer entry routes — drain lines, floor traps, and toilet connections — must be part of the treatment. An electric fogger combined with drain-line chemical application targets the routes of entry directly.
Each step is designed around the biology and movement patterns of the species we are treating. There is no fixed duration — treatment time depends on infestation severity, property size, and species present. Our technicians do not leave until every step is complete.
The technician begins with a systematic inspection of the full property — kitchen cabinets, appliance undersides and backs, drainage points, wall cavities, and bathroom drain traps. The objective is not just to confirm the presence of cockroaches but to identify the species, map all active harborage zones, quantify approximate infestation density, and locate all entry points and breeding areas.
The species determines the treatment method. A property with both German and American cockroach populations requires a dual-method approach — and that can only be determined through inspection, not over the phone.
A targeted WHO-approved residual chemical is applied to the interior of all kitchen cabinets, focusing specifically on corners, shelf-back edges, hinge zones, the underside of drawers, and the area immediately behind and beneath installed appliances. These are the primary harborage zones for German cockroaches, where they aggregate, breed, and feed.
The residual chemical leaves an active surface film that continues to kill cockroaches making contact with treated surfaces for several weeks after application. Unlike a general room spray, this is precision work that targets the zones where the population actually lives rather than open surfaces the cockroaches avoid.
Following the residual spray, cockroach-specific gel bait is applied in precise, small placements at the locations where cockroaches feed and harbour — inside treated cabinets, around appliances, behind hinges, and near moisture sources. The bait uses a food attractant combined with a delayed-action insecticide.
The critical mechanism: cockroaches that consume the bait return to the harborage zone before dying. Other cockroaches consume the dead individual and the bait residue on its body, creating a secondary kill effect that reaches cockroaches deep inside the colony that never came into direct contact with either the spray or the original bait. This secondary kill capability is essential for achieving full colony elimination rather than just surface reduction.
For American cockroach control, the entry route is the treatment target. An electric fogger disperses chemical throughout living rooms, drawing rooms, bathrooms, and open areas, reaching wall gaps, ceiling junctions, and hollow spaces that spray alone cannot penetrate. The fog settles on all surfaces and kills any cockroach making contact.
Simultaneously, a chemical solution is passed through all drain lines, floor traps, and toilet connections — the primary entry routes for sewer-dwelling cockroaches. Treating only the interior of the property without sealing and treating the drainage entry points produces temporary results; the same population re-enters through the same routes within weeks.
Wall cracks, expansion joints, gaps around pipe entries, junctions between cabinets and walls, and any void spaces identified during inspection are treated with residual chemical using targeted application equipment. These are the secondary harborage and travel routes used by both species, and their treatment is what prevents a treated kitchen population from simply relocating rather than being eliminated.
Before the technician leaves, they advise on re-entry timing (typically 2–4 hours for the property to ventilate), which surfaces to avoid cleaning immediately, how to identify whether the treatment is working during the first week, and what signs indicate a follow-up visit may be needed.
Entry-point sealing recommendations are provided in writing where gaps or structural vulnerabilities were identified during the inspection. A sealed drain trap costs almost nothing to fix and prevents recurrence.
Most cockroach treatments in Karachi apply a single spray pass and leave. Recurrence within a month is the most common complaint. Our protocol is built around the reasons generic treatments fail.
