5 Questions To Ask Before Hiring Any Fumigation Company In Karachi

Before hiring a fumigation company in Karachi, ask five questions. Are you licensed and PPMA-registered? Which active ingredient will you use? What exactly does the treatment involve? Will I get a written report and a re-treatment guarantee? What precautions does my family need to take? How a company answers tells you more than any advert or WhatsApp message can. Specific answers are a good sign; vague reassurances are not.

Karachi’s market ranges from licensed operators with trained technicians to roadside sprayers with a hand pump and an unlabeled bottle. From the outside, the two can look the same. The difference shows up in results, or when something goes wrong.

Good Answers vs Red Flags at a Glance

1. Are You PPMA-Registered and Do You Hold a Valid Pest Control License?

This is the foundational question. A license means the company is accountable for how it buys, stores and applies regulated pesticides. An unlicensed operator has nothing to lose if a job goes wrong. Our guide to PPMA-registered vs unregistered pest control companies explains the practical difference.

Don’t stop at seeing a document. Check three things: the name on the license matches the company that will invoice you, the expiry date has not passed, and the number can be confirmed with the issuing body. A legitimate company shares these details without hesitation. You can see what proper credentials look like on our pest control license page.

2. Which Chemical Will You Use, and What Is Its Active Ingredient?

A trained technician can name the active ingredient, such as cypermethrin, deltamethrin, bifenthrin, imidacloprid or fipronil. They can also explain why it suits your pest. The brand name alone tells you little, because the same brand can carry different formulations for field crops and for indoor use.

The most dangerous shortcut in Karachi is aluminium phosphide tablets. These are a grain and warehouse fumigant that releases toxic phosphine gas. Their misuse inside homes has been linked to fatal poisonings in Pakistan. If anyone proposes tablets for a lived-in house or flat, or asks you to seal the home overnight for a routine pest job, stop the job.

3. What Does the Treatment Process Actually Involve?

Ask for a step-by-step explanation, including how many visits are planned. The right process depends on the pest:

  • Cockroaches: gel bait in cabinet hinges and behind appliances, crack-and-crevice spraying, and treatment of drains and plumbing gaps. Our cockroach control service page describes this in detail.
  • Termites: inspection, then drilling and termiticide injection along walls and floors, then sealing the holes. See our termite control service page for the full method.
  • Bed bugs: treatment of every hiding spot, not just the mattress, plus a follow-up visit to catch hatching eggs. Our comparison of bed bug heat vs chemical treatment explains why.

If the technician cannot describe what they will do inside the affected rooms, the treatment is unlikely to be thorough.

4. Will I Get a Written Report and a Re-Treatment Guarantee?

A professional company documents every job. The report should record the address, the pest treated, the product and its concentration, the date, and the technician’s name. That document is your proof of service and your reference point if the pests return.

For the guarantee, ask three things: how long it lasts, what conditions apply, and what voids it. In Karachi, timing matters. Cockroach and mosquito pressure climbs through summer and the July–September monsoon, so a short warranty on a spring treatment may expire just as activity peaks. Our guide to pest control warranties and guarantees covers what fair terms look like.

5. What Precautions Should My Family Take, and for How Long?

Safety guidance depends on the product used, so a careful company gives instructions that are specific to it:

  • How long to stay out of the home
  • How to ventilate the treated rooms
  • When food-contact surfaces are safe to use again
  • What to do about pets. Aquariums in particular need covering, because many insecticides are highly toxic to fish.

For households with young children or pets, read whether pest control is safe for children and pets before the visit.

Apartments need extra care. Shared stairwells, ventilation shafts and adjoining balconies mean spray drift can reach neighbors, so tell them before treatment. This is a common issue in the blocks covered in our Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Johar apartment pest guide.

Keep rooftop and underground water tank lids closed during spraying. An open or dirty tank is also a mosquito breeding site, which our water tank cleaning service removes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the cheapest fumigation quote worth taking?

Rarely. A very low quote usually means a single visit, a diluted product, or no follow-up, so the infestation returns and you end up paying twice. Compare what each quote includes, not just the total. Our breakdown of cockroach control cost in Karachi shows what drives the price.

Can a company give an accurate quote without visiting?

For simple general pest control, a phone estimate based on property size can be reasonable. For termites, bed bugs or commercial sites, an accurate quote needs an inspection first. Without one, the price is a guess and the treatment plan is too.

What paperwork does a restaurant or food business need after fumigation?

Food businesses should keep dated treatment reports and certificates from a licensed provider, because inspectors can ask to see them. Our guide to fumigation certificate requirements for Karachi restaurants explains what to keep on file.

Is herbal pest control safer than chemical treatment?

Not automatically. “Herbal” is a marketing label, and some herbal products are less effective against established infestations. The safer choice is a correctly applied, properly labeled product with clear precautions. We compare both in our guide to chemical vs herbal pest control.

Do I need to empty my kitchen before treatment?

For kitchen treatments, store open food and utensils in sealed containers or move them out of the room. Clear the cabinets that will be treated. Your technician should tell you exactly what to move before the visit, not on arrival.
